2014 MKAL 1
Jan. 14th, 2014 11:26 amI started my first mystery knit along of 2014 last week and just finished up clue 1 (of 5). Laura Nelkin, the designer, created a MKAL club for 2014 that I joined. You get 4 patterns and all the materials. You can also just buy the patterns, but if you're not part of the club you won't get the 4th one until she releases it separately, usually after some amount of time has passed.
Some people don't like kits because, in a way, it's limiting your creativity for picking out colors and fibers, etc. Sometimes I want to do that, but sometimes I don't. With something like a MKAL, especially when I'm pretty sure it'll be a shawl, I like having the kits because then I know that the materials definitely go together. Plus, I'm crap at picking out coordinating colors.
Laura does a good job of suggesting several different yarn brands, though, which is nice if I wanted to do it again and didn't have access to the default materials.
Anyway, this one is called Magpie, which just sounds odd to my ears, even though I know it's a bird.
I made my Ravelry page public, hopefully you can see it if you so desire.
My Magpie progress.
